In fact, in an hour, tension should be checked a minimum of 4-5 times. Problems such as separating from the guide bar are the result of a loose chain while if the tension is too tight, then wear and tear on the guide bar will be escalated.
Always check the chain brakes periodically. By testing the brakes, an indication can be given if the saw needs to head into a professional for a check up. If on braking the chain continues to run then it's ready to be serviced.
